The Gift that keeps on giving!

We got our first set back in 2014 for our (then) 4-yo son. We now have two sons (9 and 6) and have purchased an add-on set every Christmas ever since. We now have a set that is to die for, and the addition of two elevators (birthday presents) allow us to make structures that tower to fantastic heights with twists and turns, flips and funnels that will be enjoyed for several days before the whole thing is taken apart and rebuilt in a whole new way over and over again. The parts are made of rigid plastic (unlike the flexible and sagging kind used by other versions) so it holds together well and with a little common sense will stand up without falling over. The only drawbacks are: 1. some parts have small protrusions which can break and, so far, I have not found a source of replacement parts. 2. not all marbles are the same size, so if you get additional marbles from a local store, they may or may not work very well. One advantage, though, is that several of the other name-brand sets are completely compatible so if there is one specialized piece you see in another set of similar type, chances are they will work. Overall, with a little patience and spreading the cost of add-ons over a long period of time, you can make a very good investment. Even now (5-years later), this toy is still going strong and never gets boring.

thought provoking but needs design tweak

the idea and quality of this toy is excellent. it can be assembled simply or complexly and grows with the child (and grandparent...lol). it has one design flaw...stability. it needs a base on which to build. it doesn't stand well on carpet, and on wood and tile flooring it is slippery and easily topples when one changes design or adds or subtracts elements. a base with circles to fit the pieces into would improve it greatly. i realize a base would have to be fairly large, and this would mean complex packaging, but the toy is close to 100 dollars when all add-ons are purchased, and the instability makes it somewhat of a disappointment.

So fun!

This set is great, and I probably have as much fun with it as the kids do! It's so easy to put the pieces together and configure it however you want. We had another marble run in the past (different manufacturer) that was a beast to put together and you could only do it one way. This one was so much better! The elevator is great and just keeps things moving along. You can adjust the length of the elevator depending on how high you want it to be, which is nice. Definitely recommend this one!

AMAZING!!!

This a wonderful toy that requires thought and dexterity. My 4.5 year old grandson and I had many hours of building and rebuilding the runs. The elevator is a great addition to keep things moving.

Fun for Hours!

Loved the marble run - it has entertained both my 3 yo and husband for hours! Unfortunately, we couldn't get the elevator to work, so we gave up on that part.

Pretty Good?

The marble tubes were fine and went together without any problems. The motorized marble elevator however, was impossible to operate following the directions that accompanied this set. It took a telephone call to he company and different directions given over the phone to get it to operate the way it was intended to operate. The proper instructions should have been included with the set. If I hadn't called the company, I would have had to return it to Mindware for a refund.

Great Gift!

I ordered the marble run and motorized elevator for my four-year-old granddaughter. Her dad, now an engineer, loved a marble works set he had when he was about her age. What a perfect gift for them both! They got busy creating spectacular designs, then improving them and trying to make them "the best ever"! I understand that he had an issue with the elevator and it was replaced immediately, at no cost to him or me. I hadn't ordered from MindWare, but I definitely will be ordering again!

great fun for adults too

I bought this for my husband and I love it! The child in me is alive and I love all the fun "runs" I made with this set. My recent purchase was an additional set and an elevator, so the sky is the limit now!

Fun for all ages

This is a great toy for kids to put their engineering skills to work while having fun. My kids loved making different designs and seeing who could build the faster track. They spent hours coming up with different runs and finding ways to support it so it wouldn't tip over. The motorized elevator is a great addition as it allows for constant flow of marbles without having to put them in by hand. We had extra marbles laying around so we used those in addition to what came with it for even more action!

Did not see gift

I cannot review it since it was a gift to a 6 year old boy who lives in N.Caro. I live in MD. I received a sort of thank you card letting me know that I was not very responsible sending a game that used marbles because of his younger brother who is ten months old. I didn't realize that he was that old. I assume it will never be used.

Eight year olds love it

This was requested by one of my 8 year old twin grandsons. They already have a smaller version of the marble run but no elevator. They started assembling the marble run right away, and they were thrilled at the number of marbles in the package. Their Dad had to help them with the elevator. It was a little tricky but they got it working. The only problem was stability but it was on a not-too-level brick patio, so we expect it will be better at home on a flat uncarpeted floor.
