Access to a smart phone limits use of the VR.
I purchased this for my great-grandson who is eight. He loves the VR kit but doesn't use it much because access to a smart phone is not always available. He would need to have a smart phone of his own, which isn't appropriate for his age, or be patient to use the VR when a phone is available. The science experiments, however, are awesome and fun.

Not VR
When a product is labeled "VR Science Kit," I would expect the science experiments to include the VR...But nope. The VR has nothing to do with it. Super disappointing!

SUPER COOL VIRTUAL REALITY KIT
Wasn’t sure what to expect from this kit, but it impressed the kids and parents! Loads of details and Bill Nye is still the best. Highly recommend.

Disappointing VR experience
My 7.5 year old son was disappointed in this kit. He got excited by the description in the Mindware catalog that said "you'll soar above volcanoes, plunge into crystal caves, and more." Instead, the app on the phone showed video taken from an airplane over a volcano and "it wasn't very exciting." He was expecting more of an immersive experience, rather than simple video played in each eye. The experiments were repeats of ones from other science kits. Kiddo would not recommend.

Will the VR headset fit a larger phone? Like a Pixel 7?

  • BEST ANSWER: Yes. Phones attach to the VR headset with a clip that is adjustable for the depth of the phone. The width and length dimensions of your phone do not impact compatibility.
