Fun but super messy
Fun, hands-on activity for my 6 year old. She loves it and has played with it twice now. She finds 2-3 gems each time she plays with it for about 45 min. The only downside is it's SUPER messy. Even with using the mat that comes with the kit and paper towels under, there is a lot of the clay/debris all over the chair and floor when she's done.

Best Gift EVER!
This was a gift for my 'hard to buy for' grandson, 9 years old -- they are so technically sophisticated, but my daughter told me it was his favorite gift and he put his 'finds and poster' on his wall in his room. My 6 year old granddaughter and I enjoyed this experience together and I would definitely recommend it to children of 5 and above. She loved finding the stones and matching them up with the materials provided, especially the large poster. I would recommend doing the project outdoors or in the garage as it does make quite a mess.

We're mineralologists!
This was great for two 4 yr olds and a 6yr old to occupy most of an afternoon. They loved the mess and discovery. Make sure you do this outside and don't let a new puppy eat the fallout or drink the soaking bucket. Needs adult supervision to get them going and occasional reminders to keep some distance from each other if more than one kid is poking into the mass.
