Fun, hands-on activity for my 6 year old. She loves it and has played with it twice now. She finds 2-3 gems each time she plays with it for about 45 min. The only downside is it's SUPER messy. Even with using the mat that comes with the kit and paper towels under, there is a lot of the clay/debris all over the chair and floor when she's done.

Fun and educational experience
My 6 year old granddaughter and I enjoyed this experience together and I would definitely recommend it to children of 5 and above. This was great for two 4 yr olds and a 6yr old to occupy most of an afternoon. They loved the mess and discovery. Make sure you do this outside and don't let a new puppy eat the fallout or drink the soaking bucket. Needs adult supervision to get them going and occasional reminders to keep some distance from each other if more than one kid is poking into the mass.

Great gem mining and digging experience, well done mind ware
First off, simply a great gem digging experience. 6 and 10 year olds were entertained for an hour or more. Once the first gem was found their motivation kept growing with ea h new find. The gems are of decent quality and bigger than other kits, which makes this one stand out. It’s messy, but that’s a lot of the fun! We purchased this at a local Independant toy store. It was recommended. We and the kids also recommend it to any and all families.

Girls dig it, too!
Bought this for 6-yr old granddaughter. To say she loved it is an understatement. With her dad's help, they chiseled out all the geodes and gems. According to them, it was really easier than expected. Also, enjoyed looking up the different rocks/stones to find out their names. Be sure and soak the uncut big rock in water for a few minutes to make the chiseling easier. Great fun!

Educational and Fun
My 5 year old loved it. Def soak in water before you start to dig. I was hoping it would last a few days, but my little one was ambitious and found all the gems in a few hours. Activity is messy, so do outside. We also used a big bowl of water to wash hands, rocks and tools frequently. Only got 1-2 gem repeats. The poster was intersting too.
