Messy disappointment
We soaked the chest per the instructions and the plaster was still extremely hard. When we did find the treasure, my child was disappointed to find cheap plastic jewels, a teeny tiny key and a broken medallion. For as much effort was required to find the treasure, I do think the treasure could have been a little better in quality. Because we had to continue to soak the treasure chest to be able to dig, we ended up with a huge mess with wet plaster everywhere. Would not recommend.

Too messy!
My daughter requested this from the Easter bunny. IT WAS SO MESSY, she and her siblings covered in dust, piles and piles of dust they chipped away at. It was awful! Like we were at a construction site, covered in drywall dust. She was so excited about this and I feel bad bc her dad and I had to trash it. I hope it’s not toxic bc it was being inhaled and got all over everyone’s clothes. Wanted to love this but it was a frustrating mess.

Loads of fun
This was a Christmas gift for our eight year old grandson. He enjoyed it very much and our seven year old granddaughter and four year old grandson wanted to help him also! So, it kept all three of them busy.

Treasure was pretty lame
The actual gold dig it up treasure box was way better than the plastic stuff inside. Overpriced for what you get in the end.

Buy it for delighted kids :)
Our 4 year old son LOVED this! He was beyond excited excavating for treasures and took great delight in matching the “treasures” to the educational poster it came with. We soaked the treasure chest in water for maybe an hour or so and my son was able to dig it out by himself. We’ve done a lot of the Dig it Up series and this was definitely one of his favorites!!!
Also we use a piece of flat cardboard to excavate on after soaking the treasure chest so it was easy clean up.

Extremely messy but fun!
Purchased for my daughter. It was well made and she got two days worth of fun out of it (we saved the bonus mini chest for another day). I do think it is slightly overpriced. It came with a beautiful pirate map but I wish the map correlated with the treasure chest better. The map features items she didn't receive (there was no key) and I also wish there was string included for the pendent. Another feature I would have expected from a $35 dollar dig toy is a small satchel to keep the gems in.

Underwhelming
My boys like these type of dig-it gifts, and I think they're really great for ages ~3-6. They are messy, so we set up outside, where I can manage the dust. Unfortunately, this one (as opposed to the dragon eggs, which were a big hit) was pretty underwhelming. I don't even think my younger son's kit came with all the advertised items - he fixated on finding the key, and we never did. The jewels are just plastic, but my kids still get a kick out of them. Nat Geo has some good toys like this!

Not for a 4 year old
It says 4+ on the box but my 4 year old could not do this on his own. The hammer that comes with it broke before we found any treasure and we ended up using a real hammer to make any progress. We had fun but saying 4+ doesn’t seem accurate.

Be ready for a giant mess!!!
This was a Christmas gift for my 8 y.o. grandson. He and his 10 y.o. sister were so excited to find the treasures! Well an hour and a BIG mess later, the treasures were found.
This was supposed to be fun, but instead it turned out to be too time consuming. I and their mother had to also help as the children were tired and losing interest. The table and floor were so messed up, despite laying paper toweling down. A construction worker's tarp would have been more convenient!

Hours of Entertainment
My son loved this so much we ordered it for the second time. It is hours of busy work for him (age 8) and he likes to keep a collection of all the "gems" he has. It is messy so we put it in a large plastic bin for him to work on. It's actually a plastic litter box! Sometimes it's a little tough for the younger ones to get started so you may have to help a bit in the beginning.
