Ratings & Reviews

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Missing parts in several boxes We purchased over 20 kits for a tinkering program at school. Several kits were missing parts, which reduced the overall number of trebuchets we could actually build. Otherwise, a great product with easy steps and sturdy materials.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardest part: Waiting for glue to dry! Really, this kit is well planned and well designed. The literal hardest part for my 7-year-old son was waiting for the glue to dry. "Medieval Max" was ready to try out his siege machine. He tested the accuracy and observed acceleration and force over distance with the targets included. Learned about geometry, curves, and trajectory while attempting to recreate the actual physics of one his favorite games. We received this product in exchange for a fair review. I (we) recommend this product (and a supply of ping pong balls for inside)! Overall: Great blend of history, engineering, and fun.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not purchase This product was designed to be sold for profit but never intended to be put together as a functional toy. The "designers" of this want you to believe that the whole assembly will go together with glue and that might be true if you have several hundred small clamps and about 10-12 hours of assembly time. Save your money and do not buy this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great STEM activity My son (age 7) and I worked on building this together. I really let him take the lead and he was able to construct with very little assistance. Both my sons (5 and 7) had fun launching it after it was built and testing different weights to see how high and far it would go. We did not use the targets at this point and from watching them play with it I would find it very hard to believe that the would be able to make it consistent enough to actually hit targets. However, maybe with more practice and testing weights for a longer period they would become accurate. Overall, they had fun with it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great instructions, good exercise in precision I worked on this with my 10 year old twins. Gluing the pieces together needs to be VERY PRECISE, otherwise, your trebuchet won't fit together right. This was written in a small area of the instructions, but almost got lost with all the text around it. Being this precise was a challenge even for my 10-year olds. A bottle of wood glue is included in the package, however, the bottle is made of very hard plastic. I had a difficult time squeezing glue out of the bottle, and because I had to use so much force to squeeze the glue, I wasn't able to place a precise amount on the planks. It came out in big clumps. My kids, who don't have the finger strength that I do, were unable to squeeze the glue bottle at all. I'm glad I was there to help them squeeze the glue bottle, check their work and remind them to be very precise in glueing things together. The glue is good, so you want to make sure you've glued the pieces together correctly before it dries! I also found there wasn't enough glue included. We were unable to assemble the Trebuchet completely because we ran out of glue, and I haven't had an opportunity to buy a new bottle of wood glue at a hardware store. The instructions were very clear & easy to follow. We've assembled all the pieces, so I think the structure will come together very easily once we have new glue. We are looking forward to experimenting with our new trebuchet when it's all glued together!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Straight forward and fun! My 11-year old stepdaughter loved making and then figuring out how the counterweight so she could launch her miniatures across our living room! The directions were very straight forward, and even though my partner and I supervised, she was able to build the trebuchet on her own. The wood and glue are high quality, and work well. We are thinking about getting other KEVA products as a result of our experience. One issue - the pouch did not stay - we had to figure out a way to make it work better.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Design, Fun to Build - Doesn't Work I have to concur with the majority of reviews here: While this seems to be a quality product, with great instructions and fun to build, the end result does not work. (issue appears to be associated with a pretty shoddy sling pouch and incorrect pouch string lengths, resulting in a complete lack of consistency in how the Keva balls are released) I realize perhaps some of the fun will be 'engineering' a solution, and my son and I will start working on that, but it would have been nice if it had least worked a little as built.
