Frustrating
I loved rug hooking as a kid and this kit is much too difficult for a brand new user. There's no latch, which makes it more challenging to manipulate. Directions are difficult to interpret. Would not recommend.

Disappointment
The pros: It has a good frame, hook and the burlap is as expected for a rug hooking project.
The cons: The fragile yarn provided is inappropriate for the project. It would be better suited for a latch hook and fabric.
I have been hooking rugs for many years and even I had difficulty manipulating the yarn through the burlap. It was frustrating for our nine year old and she gave up after a few days of trying.

NOT a Latch Hook Rug
I realize you advertise this to include burlap so that was not the issue. I had read lots of reviews of other hook rugs that did not have the design printed on the fabric so I jumped at this one thinking this is what I did when I was a kid. NOPE! My daughter worked on this once after Christmas and has not taken it out since. Usually hook rugs have short strands of yarn that you weave into a color coded meash. My daughter is 11 and very crafty but she barely completed two rows here. This was a gift from my 8yr old son to his sister so I was disappointed to say the least. I use to love these as a kid but this was not the same type of product at all.

not what I expected
I expected a latch hook rug like sold in stores which have single short fibers. This had long fibers to use for several holes. Not familiar with this method. Also, the fabric was burlap, not what I expected either. Ended up returning this item.

NOT Latch hook
After my daughter had this on her xmas list for many months I was very disappointed when we opened the package. she was eagerly waiting to work on this craft but the material that is supposed to be the "rug" part of the latch hook is NOT appropriate for the age group stated. In fact, I've never seen a mat made out of any such material for use on latch hook. There is no way my 8 yr old can work on this flimsy material. Very sad to see how the manuf of this cheapened it up so much.
