Product Details

The Art of the Catapult book introduces the history and science concepts behind ancient artillery devices and includes instructions for building seven authentic working model catapults. Whether playing at defending their own castle or simply chucking pumpkins over a fence, readers will become acquainted with ancient artillery devices known commonly as catapults. Re-creating these simple yet sophisticated machines introduces the fundamentals of math and physics using levers, force, torsion, tension, and traction. Instructions and diagrams illustrate how to build seven authentic working model catapults, including an early Greek ballista, a Roman onager, and the apex of catapult technology, the English trebuchet. Additional projects include learning how to lash and make rope and how to construct and use a hand sling and a staff sling.

Ratings & Reviews

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My 9 year old grandson and I built the 'Viking Cayapault'. We made it a learning experience as I taught him how to lash the parts together and we had a lengthy discussion of how the Vikings lived and probably visited Nort America before Columbus. While we had to modify the catapault desing to make it actually work, we had a grat time and both look forward to building the next catapault when he comes to visit next.ed
