Gift for long-distance great niece, 12 years old. Much appreciated as she's pretty artistic. I enclosed $10 for her to buy colored pencils in case she didn't have enough choice. (Think MindWare's colored pencils too expensive.)

Nice balance of structure and creativity
The illustrations in this book are beautiful and complex. These aren't the simple, cheesy, color by number pictures from my childhood! Each illustration is used in two almost-identical pages. The first page is a typical color by number and the second is the same illustration without the numbers, so you can choose your own colors and create your own designs. What a great opportunity to get kids thinking more deeply! My first grade daughter and I enjoyed coloring in this book together, and I even snuck the book out for a date with my husband and we had a blast coloring a page together. It's fun for all ages...and addicting!
