Gently hit one with a hammer and it will break open to reveal an incredible crystal cavern hidden within. This premium set includes a full-color guidebook, safety glasses and crystal geodes in a variety of types and colors ranging in size from 1.5"-2", plus pyrite geodes that look like plain old rocks from the outside but crack open to display a sparkling golden interior.

We broke two of them open together and he was better at it than I was. He looked all the pieces over carefully and kept them all. He will open the rest with his Dad and they can enjoy them together.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Katie E. from Extremely Difficult I was really excited to give this gift to my son. However, after almost 2 weeks of pounding on them, they still won't crack open. We have tried multiple size hammers & chisels. Many have tried, including my husband, father, brother, & neighbor. Putting them away for now as we might have better luck doing this during the summer outside. Very frustrated & disappointed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GMAKathy from Delighted a 9 year old Although previous reviews indicated some of the geodes were almost impossible to crack, my 9 year old granddaughter opened all herself. A few did require some effort. There was a good variety of geode types. They were a hit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by MNLS from An excellent gift! Our six year old grandson has been interested in the rocks that his grandmother has been collecting so we thought that he might enjoy the Geodes. He was thrilled with the gift. It turned out to be his favorite Christmas present. He is reading the enclosed pamphlet and is sharing the information with his younger brother. It seems strange to say that our grandson's favorite gift was a box of rocks but such was the case. An excellent educational choice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by BLee from Difficult to break open Smaller geodes opened OK but the bigger ones were virtually impossible. Even grandpa with a mallet, chisel and vice grip could not do it. Grandson loved the ones he was able to open.
