Not recommended for young unless their attention span can tolerate at least one hour. Very similar to dominoes.
We bought for our 7 year old grandson and it was to complicated and the rules ambiguous. The price does not justify the game.

Great Multi-Generational Game
This is a fun, challenging game for all ages to play together. Rarely, have we found a game which is strategic enough for adults, while being easy enough for children to learn. I have to add that our 13 yr. old granddaughter has been "beating our pants off" in this game for about 3 years! Also, there's not much fighting or animosity which can result from this game: fair competition only. This is absolutely one of my favorite games to play as a family.

TERRIFIC game for all ages
Qwirkle is a great game for all ages, very young to we more mature grandparents. Easily learned yet can be challenging. My daughter gives this gift when her sons are invited to a birthday party. Great for both boys and girls. We now have both Qwirkle and Qwirkle Cubes at home which adds another layer of fun and challenge.

This is by far one of my favorite games. My 5 year old daughter is pretty good at games, meaning she's practiced a bit with various card games and has learned to pick up the concepts and has a modicum of patience, and she picked this up very quickly.We've played it with friends and family and every group we introduce it to LOVES it. We've already caused a knock-off purchase, and I easily expect more.One of the keys is not just that the ruleset is so trivial and the concept so simple, but unlike scrabble, the game is immediately international and crosses all language boundaries.This should be the dominos of our era.

Ordered at the recommendation of a gifted student who enjoyed playing at home. Easy to learn, to store, and for multiple age levels.
