This past winter, a friend's preschooler excitedly told me that her class had just released painted lady butterflies. My heart sank, as the weather was still too cold for butterflies to fly and there was no available food for them. I knew they would die from starvation. I think that having children witness metamorphosis is an unforgettable experience which could lead to a wonderful appreciation of nature. However, we need to be mindful of the needs of these most amazing creatures. Please don't order the caterpillars until there are flowers in bloom from which the butterflies can get nectar. I bought a smaller version of this cage years ago, but would never allow my students to use it to catch butterflies. I taught them to admire butterflies with their eyes. Instead I use it to transport newly eclosed butterflies prior to their release. The cage has held up nicely for over 5 years. I also did not order the caterpillars, but planted host plants which attracted the butterflies to our garden.

No Butterfly
I gave this as a gift to my granddaughter not realizing there was another fee to be paid, it says $5 in small print but is $9.95 on the voucher, so she had to give me the paperwork back so I could order for her. And then when I tried to order tonight the code will not work. No butterflies, a very bad gift so far and a very disappointed granddaughter.
I will say when I called they were very friendly (mind ware), however I can't believe the voucher will not work and now I need to make another call to see how to get the caterpillars.

Great for home education!
My daughter loved watching the caterpillars growing and eventually changing. The order for the caterpillars came quickly and as advertised. We made this part of our home school education. This would also be great in a classroom or as a project/report.

Butterfly Pavilion
So far so good. Winter so haven’t tried out the success of releasing butterflies yet. But a unique idea for science lovers. Got the wings and the girls put them on and they fit each one just fine. They are 2, 4, and 6. Six year old can read so the butterfly information guide was a great resource.

Pretty Amazing
My 6 and 8 year olds really enjoyed watching the stages from caterpillars to butterfly. Very easy to do, really no hands on work. The only downside is the additional $9.95 extra in shipping for the caterpillars. I feel that should be included with the price I paid.

Wonderful Amazing!
It's been an amazing adventure watching the catapillars grow into crysalides and now butterflies! I wanted the large pavilion so I could get 2cups of catapillars thinking they would not all make it into butterflies. But they all did. We have all 10! We will enjoy them for another day and then release. I can't believe we missed every one of them coming out of the crysalide. Every time we looked another one had emerged! It's a reminder. Just because you don't see it, it does not mean it did not happen! Like A Miracle! I will definitely get more maybe every year! We will use the pavilion for other creatures too like lightening bugs. Highly recommend!!

Great gift for elementary ages!
My 7 year old grandson loves having his own butterfly pavilion! It's easy to use inside until the weather is warmer. Hopefully, we can re-order and keep the pavilion for next spring!
