My husband and I gave this to our grandson Thomas for Christmas and he was so excited. He plans to make vanilla ice cream when they move into their newly renovated home.
Right now they are too busy to make ice cream, but they will get to it. Thomas will make sure of it.
We live on the East Coast and Thomas and his family live on the West Coast. I will have to get back to you about the maiden ice cream event. In the meantime, please know that this item was a real hit with all the kids and parents.

This Christmas gift was a hit with the entire family!
This Christmas gift was a hit with the entire family! We made ice cream to go with apple pie for dessert. Kids age 11 and 6 literally had a ball.;) Easy vanilla recipe. Rolled ball for a bit more than half hour and the ice cream was delicious.

Fun for kids
The ice cream ball was fun for the kids to roll around and it made delicious ice cream. The only negative that I had was it was hard to scrape the ice cream off the sides during the process, so when we finished we had very soft ice cream in the center and very hard ice cream on the outer edges of the container. It was also hard to scrape all the ice cream out, though we did end up adding some hot water to the opposite side of the ball and that made it easier for the ice cream to come out. I think the next time we try it, we will stop rolling and scrape more frequently so it doesn't build up so much on the outside edges.

It works, but be prepared to roll the ball back-and-forth for 30 to 40 minutes.
Had a small issue with a few drops of liquid coming out every once in a while, but the kids had fun rolling the ball back-and-forth. It took 40 minutes to prepare when not using rocksalt. It made enough ice cream for five kids to have a small bowl. Kind of difficult to get the ice cream out of the inside chamber- sticks to side. It was fun for them, although I am not sure how often we will get it out to use it versus buying a gallon of ice cream

This is a fun tool for children while helping them learn to enjoy making a homemade food product.
My seven year old requested this for her birthday and was so excited when it arrived. My children enjoy seeing how different foods are made, and this was a very simple way for them to see how to make ice cream. There are several different recipes in the Ben and Jerry book and she is excited to try most of them. It really does form ice cream just by simply rolling the ball back and forth for about 1/2 hour. Easy to clean. Be sure to close tightly to prevent leaks.
